The Shiite Muslims in Nigeria, who are better known as The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) engaged in a protest demanding the release of their leader Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky who has been in detention.
Zakzaky was arrested back in 2015 during a clash between members of the IMN and the Nigerian Army in Zaria. He was injured in the process.
Ever since his detention there have been demands for his release by both IMN members and sympathisers. Even Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, has made appeals to the Nigerian government for his release.
Thursday was the latest of series of protest demanding Zakzaky’s release. The protest was held in Abuja in which Soldiers and the Police resulted to the use of force. Some protesters got injured in the process.
