Buhari, Sultan Of Sokoto & Others Makes world's most influential Muslims [SEE LIST]

– The list of the top 500 Muslims in the world has been released with President Buhari and the Sultan of Sokoto making the top 50. 

– The list also has Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote and leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau Thirteen Nigerians including President Muhammadu Buhari and the Sultan of Sokoto and president of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, have made the just released list of the top 50 influential Muslims in the world. 


The third Nigerian to make the eighth edition of the list is Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh, a popular Islamic cleric based in Borno state. Share on Facebook Share on Twitter. 


Buhari was number 17 on the list, up from 20 in 2016 while the Sultan moved up 22 from 24 in 2016. 

The list with the title: ‘The Muslim 500: The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims’ 2017 was released on Thursday, October 6, 2016 and showed that the worled has a Muslim population of 1-7 billion. 

The list also had the Chief Imam of Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Dr. Abdulrahman Olanrewaju Ahmad, Dr Ibrahim Datti Ahmed, Prince Bola Ajibola, Imam Muhammad Ashafa, Sheikh Tahir Usman Bauchi, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Sheikh Yakubu Musa Katsina, Prof Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and Shiite leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, but they were not among the top 50. 

The report published in the Muslim 500, said those who made the list had also made impact which could be positive or negative depending on the views of people. 

It said: “The first two examples also point to the fact that the lists, and especially the Top 50, are dominated by religious scholars and heads of state. 

“Their dominant and lasting influence cannot be denied, especially the rulers, who in many cases also appoint religious scholars to their respective positions.”
